In module 4, we zoom in on the most popular strategies – there are several “R-frameworks” – typically associated with circular economy. The strategies have implications for governments and policy makers, but also for companies, organizations and you as a consumer.

The most “abstract” strategies of circular economy include refusing non-circular materials and products, reducing and rethinking the usage and “end-of-life”.

 

In this unit, the main strategies for extending product life are explained. You will also learn how these strategies can applied in daily life.

If the other strategies are no longer possible, strategies for closing flows enter the stage. By repurposing and upcycling products and materials, materials (e.g. landfills, plastics in oceans) also will have to be recovered from the ecosystem to actively regenerate the ecosystem.
